ABOUT US

HOW OUR VAN BUILDING BEGAN

In 2011 Kevin and I had to go to out of town for the summer to take care of family matters.  We quickly converted his work van into a place where we could sleep as we traveled across the country from Tennessee to California.  We took that summer off because we had to, but it made us realize if we could make it happen when we "had to" we could make it happen when we "wanted to."

We returned to our regular jobs in mid August, but immediately started making plans for the summer of 2012 road trip.  As a teacher I was able to take the summers off and Kevin owned his own custom carpentry and remodeling business.  One of the first items to address was the van conversion from work van to fun van. The conversion had to be transitional, as his van would have to convert back into a work van after our summer travels.

We loved van life during that summer, but knew that we could make the van even better for the following year.  We learned how to make things more functional, and our organization has improved with each summer road trip.

UPPING OUR GAME

When we lived in Tennessee we only felt the need to convert the van for summer road trips, but when we moved to California in 2016 we found ourselves converting the van set up for fall break, winter break, spring break and summer break. It was too much to constantly have to convert between the "fun van" and the "work van." We needed a permanent fun van. We ordered our 4x4 sprinter in 2018 and it finally arrived in September of 2019.  As we began our premium, handcrafted van conversion we knew that what we were doing was special. It became apparent to us that we could build vans for others.

Kevin started his own custom carpentry and remodeling business in 2001 after working with another contractor for 5 years. He is a consummate perfectionist. His attention to detail is unmatched. In his 25 years of experience he has completed custom carpentry projects, custom kitchens and bathrooms, decks, and furniture projects and so much more.  In addition, he has experience with both electrical and plumbing which he put to good use when designing those systems for our van.

I have been in education for 17 years as both an adventure based counselor and a teacher. However, I come from a family of architects and design is in my genes. In order to bring our van plans to life, I learned how to use a CAD program.  When you are living in a small space it is important maximize space for optimal efficiency. That means having a place and a plan for everything. I work with customers to to bring your vision to reality and walk you through the design process step-by-step.
